During the last September and in February this year, various installations have been installed and started up for the manipulation of steel plates, with 25 m and 20 Tm of maximum length and weight respectively, in the most important steel group located in Asturias, Spain.
One of the installations is prepared for handling plates with a maximum temperature of 600 ºC.
The installations are composed by 7 or 9 electromagnets, it depends on the crane and the plate characteristics that it needs to handle. All the electromagnets have the same dimensions, 300 x 1600 mm and are specially designed for this job. In addition to this, the magnets for plates with high temperatures, are manufactured with a thermal screen for protecting the coil from the intense heat and with special electric insulation.
The installations are completed with a state of the art electrical and control power supply, with possible selection of the electromagnets to energize and emergency battery Ni-Cd system, being able to keep the load lifted during a mean of 20 minutes in case an electrical power shutdown occurs.
In the same way, the electric equipment feeds the magnets with a constant current intensity, so the same level of strength is achieved during all the working hours.
Lastly, it also incorporates a continuous control system of all the variables of the installation, allowing us to know the levels of surges, overcurrents, magnets temperature, etc, for guarantee the state and availability of all the installations.
